On this Day in History

By K.M. Humphreys

It’s  January 10th, 2012.  This is a big day in our house as it’s my husband’s birthday.  I decided for my blog post today I would put together a history of the day.
First, I’ll look at famous births on this day.  Frank Sinatra, Jr. (1945) and Rod Stewart (1945) were both born on January 10th.  They were later shared a birthday with George Foreman (1949) and Bobby Rahal (1953).  You can see a whole list of other famous people born on January 10th here: http://www.historyorb.com/birthdays/january/10?p=2.
Next, I looked at famous deaths that happened on January 10th   http://www.brainyhistory.com/daysdeath/death_january_10.html.
1917: Buffalo Bill (William F. Cody)

1961: Dashiell Hammett, U.S. detective writer (Thin Man)

1966: Hermann Kasack, writer

1995: Halton Kathleen Tynan, writer

1995: Elaine Greene, literary agent

I also looked at events that happened on this day throughout history at http://www.thepeoplehistory.com/january10th.html and http://www.historyorb.com/events/january/10.   These are a few I found interesting:

1870: John D. Rockefeller incorporates Standard Oil

1870: US Senate proposes female suffrage

1901: Oil discovered in Texas

1911: First photo in US taken from an airplane, San Diego

1920: League of Nations established

My favorite? The first jet flight. :) Oh the places we've been, the place we will go.

Second favorite? Striking oil in Texas. Fuel for the places we will go.
